Frequently asked questions
WALNUT CREEK TRANSIT VILLAGE PROJECT FAQ
What is the Walnut Creek Transit Village?
Walnut Creek Transit Village is a new mixed‐use development that will contain a new parking garage for BART customers plus apartments, shops, restaurants, public plazas, views of Mt. Diablo, and improved access to the BART station.
Why do we need a new garage?
The New South Garage replaces all of the spaces on the three former surface parking lots at the station in anticipation of the mixed‐use development on the North and East parking lots. In addition to increasing parking capacity by 100 spaces, the New South Garage, along with the Existing North Garage, provides covered parking for nearly all garage customers and includes an improved bus facility, new BART police station, new passenger drop‐off area, and enhanced bike and pedestrian paths. An additional feature is original artwork by urban artist Dan Corson.
How many parking spaces for BART customers will be available after construction? Where will visitors and residents of the transit village park?
All 900 stalls in the new parking garage are exclusively for BART parking. Additional parking for Transit Village residents and shoppers will be built under the future mixed‐use apartment and retail buildings.
